Mini-Split Error Codes by Brand

There is no industry-standard mini-split code scheme. Each manufacturer defines its own two-character codes, and — more awkwardly — defines its own way of making the unit show them. Start with the brand, then check that your model number is in the family the manual covers.

Electrical and refrigerant safety

A mini-split hides two hazards behind the same plastic cover: line-voltage electronics and a sealed refrigerant circuit. Reading a code on the remote, or looking at whether the outdoor unit is running, is not the same thing as diagnosing what is behind the panel. Where the manufacturer's manual asks for power off before an owner-level external check, switch the system off at the breaker first and leave it off. Do not open the indoor or outdoor electrical and control compartments, do not pull connectors, and do not put a meter on wiring or a PCB — the service manuals put every one of those steps under a trained-technician caution, and the outdoor unit can hold a charge after the power is cut. Do not attach gauges or hoses, and do not add or remove refrigerant: under EPA Section 608, work on the refrigerant circuit of an appliance containing a regulated refrigerant is reserved for a certified technician. Anything past reading the code and checking what you can see from outside the cabinet belongs to a licensed HVAC service call. Getting the code out of the unit differs by brand

Some systems display the code by themselves when they shut down. Others hold it and only release it in a service or diagnosis mode entered from the remote, which means the code you need is not on the screen until you ask for it. Daikin, for example, publishes two separate retrieval methods in its service manuals — a Timer Cancel sequence that steps through codes with an audible confirmation, and a service-check mode reached with a button combination — and notes that not every code appears in the first method. A brand hub here starts with that procedure, because a code table is useless if you cannot get the unit to show a code.

Where the reading stops

Reading a code and looking at the outside of the equipment is owner territory. Everything the manuals do with the code afterwards is not: their troubleshooting charts open control compartments, measure between terminals, turn the fan by hand with the covers off, and end at "replace the PCB". Work on the refrigerant circuit is separately regulated — under EPA Section 608, servicing, maintaining or repairing an appliance that contains a regulated refrigerant in a way that could release it requires a certified technician. Brands

Daikin is the only brand here so far, and it is here because two of its US service manuals publish a full code table with an explicit applied-model list. A brand is added when the same is true of it. A brand-name page backed by a code list nobody can trace to a document is the thing this section exists to avoid, so brands whose tables are not publicly documented are left out rather than guessed at.
