Portable air conditioners

Last updated:

The portable air conditioner pages cover two brands and one symptom. Hisense has a hub for its portable AC codes and a page for E5. Midea has a page for P1, the bottom-tray-full code, with Midea's instruction for draining the tray. The symptom page covers a portable unit that runs but doesn't cool, working through the causes in the order the manufacturers' support documents give them.

If the display shows a code, start from the brand and then the code; if it shows nothing unusual, start from the symptom. Each code page says whether the manual gives the owner a procedure or sends you to the manufacturer.

The BTU calculator below sizes a unit for a room from the ENERGY STAR table, and its page explains why a portable unit's capacity is rated two different ways. Everything in this section is built from the brands' US owner's manuals and support pages.
