Generac Maintenance Kit: Which Part Number Fits Your Generator

Find your model number first

A 22 kW Guardian from 2012 and a 22 kW Guardian from 2022 take different kits, and a 14 kW and an 18 kW take the same one. The kilowatt rating on the enclosure isn't enough. Open the lid and read the data label: the model number is a "G00" plus five digits on current units (G0070432, for example), or a four-digit number on older ones (7043, 7171). Generac's kit article lists kits against exactly these numbers, and that list is the authority — the table below reproduces its model lists, with the kilowatt labels taken from Generac's Ordertree storefront titles. The pre-Evolution and legacy kits at the bottom are from Ordertree and dealer listings, not the support article.

Prices are Generac Ordertree's own listing in August 2026 unless noted; dealers run from a few dollars under to about $40 over (Ferguson lists A0002074708 at $118). Availability moves — A0001484977 showed as unavailable at Ordertree when checked — so if the exact kit is out, buy the pieces individually from the same dealer rather than substituting a "fits all" kit.

Two corrections worth making because they circulate widely. A0002075499 is not the current 14–17 kW kit — it's the pre-Evolution 12–17 kW kit for 2008–2013 units with 760cc and 990cc engines; Norwall's page says so and marks it discontinued. The 2013-and-later 14–17 kW Guardian takes A0002074708. And the kW-based naming on dealer sites ("20–22 kW kit") hides the generation split: a 20 kW from 2010 is A0002075524, a 20 kW from 2015 is A0002074712, a 20 kW from 2026 is A0001484977.

What the kit covers — and when

Individual parts

If you only need one thing, Generac's support article on buying individual parts points to the same Ordertree storefront and dealers. The numbers below are the ones the owner's manuals and kit listings confirm; for Next Generation engines, look the filter up by serial number through Generac's oil-filter article.

Doing the service yourself

Generac writes the kit instructions for owners and includes the funnel and towels for a reason: an oil, filter, plug and air-filter change on an air-cooled Guardian is a garden-variety small-engine service. The parts of it that deserve respect are electrical, not mechanical. Before touching anything: utility main OFF, generator MLCB OFF, controller OFF, 7.5 A fuse out, battery negative disconnected. That sequence, from Generac's battery and post-maintenance articles, is what keeps the unit from starting on its exercise timer with your hand on the flywheel.

Valve clearance is the one item in Schedule B that separates a kit job from a dealer job. It needs a feeler gauge, the spec from your manual, and the confidence to loosen a rocker lock nut. On 14 and 18 kW Guardians and Next Generation units with hydraulic lifters, the question is moot. On a 22 kW with 400 hours, it's the difference between a unit that starts on the first crank and one that posts 1100 Overcrank in the next storm — if it isn't in your skill set, buy the kit, do the oil and filters, and pay the dealer for the valves.

Repair or replace?

A kit is roughly $80–140 and covers four years; a dealer-performed Schedule B adds labor and a trip charge on top of the same parts. Neither number is close to anything that argues for replacing a generator. The false economy is the other direction: a unit that has never had Schedule B at 800 hours is running on original plugs, a clogged air filter and valves that have never been set, and every code page on this site lists "routine maintenance" among the causes for a reason.
