Generac's own route to the manual for your exact unit is its product lookup: enter your serial number, model number or ordering SKU, with no dashes, and it returns specifications, product manuals, FAQs and how-to videos for that product. If you don't know those numbers yet, see how to find a Generac serial and model number. Below are owner's manuals that Generac hosts as direct PDFs on generac.com, with what each one covers and where its maintenance schedule and troubleshooting pages are. We link to Generac's copies and don't host the files ourselves.

Home standby generator manuals

Page numbers are the printed page numbers from each manual's table of contents. The covers of these standby manuals give a kW range, not model numbers, and several ranges overlap (10–26, 10–24 and 9–22 kW air-cooled), so check the model number on your data tag in Generac's product lookup before you rely on one.

Portable and inverter generator manuals

Four of these share the cover title "GP Series Portable Generator Owner's Manual", so the column below says where each one names its models. Two name no model at all, only a power rating in their specifications.

Generac's portable fault-code article, which applies to the GP15500EFI and GP18000EFI, lists the same fault codes as the 15.5 / 18.0 kW manual. For warning lights and blink codes on these units, see Generac portable generator fault codes.

Model not listed?

  1. Find the serial and model number on the data tag. See where it is.
  2. Enter either one, with no dashes, in Generac's product lookup.
  3. If you still can't find it, Generac's support article on finding home standby manuals walks through the product lookup by serial or model number, suggests adding a zero to the end of a model number that returns nothing, and also points to the Mobile Link app and to Generac customer service for a printed copy.

We link only to Generac's own copies of its manuals, not to third-party mirrors.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I download a Generac generator manual?

From Generac's product lookup, by serial number, model number or ordering SKU, or from the direct generac.com PDFs listed above.

Is there a Generac GP6500 manual?

Yes. Generac's GP Series Portable Generator Owner's Manual (Part No. 10000029705 Rev. C) covers it. Its cover says only "GP Series Portable Generator"; the GP6500 / GP6500E and GP8000E are named in its specifications on p. 6. The link is in the portable table above.

Where's the manual for a GP5500 or GP7500E?

For the GP5500 we found no direct PDF on generac.com, so enter your serial or model number in Generac's product lookup. For the GP7500E, the direct PDF we found is a GP Series manual whose specifications name the GP7500E DF-CO, rated 7.5 kW on gas and 6.8 kW on LP (Part No. A0001914274 Rev. D). If your unit is a different GP7500E, use the product lookup.

Does the manual say how to read error codes?

Partly. The 10–26 kW air-cooled manual (Part No. A0001846499 Rev. C) explains the three LED indicator lights in Section 3 (LED Indicator Lights, p. 14), and its Quick Reference Guide in Section 5 (p. 34) lists active alarms by the name the controller shows, with the LED color, the problem, the action and the solution. It doesn't list the numeric codes; those are on our Guardian / Evolution code list. The Protector manuals list their alarm and warning messages under Alarm/Warning Conditions in Section 4 (p. 22 in the diesel 15–50 kW manual, p. 19 in the 48–80 kW 4.5L manual).
