Generac Next Generation Error Codes (Power Zone 200)
Generac's Next Generation home standby generators (10 to 28 kW) use the Power Zone 200 controller, and Generac says "Faults and Alarms now appear in Mobile Link & Field Pro instead of controller display." Below is every code on Generac's own Next Generation list, grouped by what it's about, with the message Mobile Link shows for it. That message is Generac's instruction for the code: a few tell you to check the battery or the oil level, and most say to contact a dealer.

Is my generator a Next Generation unit?
Generac sells Next Generation air-cooled standby units in 10, 14, 18, 22, 24, 26 and 28 kW, and the prior Guardian series tops out at 26 kW. The quickest tell is the controller: Next Generation units use the Power Zone 200, while Guardian units use Evolution 2.0. Of the Power Zone 200, Generac says: "These controllers do not have a display. Error messages can only be viewed in the Mobile Link app." If you have a Guardian, the codes are on the main Generac code list.
How to clear a Next Gen alarm
Generac's clearing procedure for a Next Generation unit is short: press and hold the OFF button on the controller for three seconds, then attempt to start the generator in manual mode by pressing the MANUAL button. If the error code returns, Generac says dealer service is required. The steps as Generac words them:
- Go to the front of the generator, lift the lid, and locate the controller on the top right side of the generator.
- Press and hold the OFF button for three seconds.
- Attempt to start the generator in manual mode by pressing the MANUAL button.
- If the error code returns, dealer service is required.
Generac adds: "Note: If the generator starts successfully in manual mode, it will continue to run until shut down with the AUTO or OFF button."
With a Premium Mobile Link plan, Generac lists one more option: "Remote alarm dismissal (Premium): Clear certain non-critical alarms directly from Mobile Link."
Generac's own framing of the list is blunt: "Most error codes listed below exceed typical DIY troubleshooting and may require a Generac Independent Authorized Service Dealer (IASD)." Its general code article adds that "Many yellow light error codes can be addressed by the end user/consumer". The status light tells you which kind you have: "Alarm codes will display a red indicator LED light. Warnings and maintenance reminders will display a yellow indicator LED light."
Full list of Next Generation codes
The four columns are Generac's own: the code, the alarm name Generac displays, whether it is an alarm or a warning, and the message Mobile Link shows, all in Generac's wording. A range such as 4900–4917 is a single row on Generac's list. A dash means Generac's list gives no Mobile Link message for that code. Where we have a page on the same code, it's linked; a link marked "(Guardian / Evolution page)" goes to a page written for Guardian controllers that doesn't state it covers Next Generation units.

A code that isn't on this list
If the number in Mobile Link isn't in the tables above, it isn't on Generac's published Next Generation list; 2650, 2900, 2904, 3519 and 4800, for example, don't appear on it. Generac's general code article suggests: "If you don't see your specific code, try referencing an article about a code with the first two digits of the code you're seeing." Write down the exact number and the message Mobile Link shows, and give both to a Generac dealer. Guardian-series codes are on the main Generac list.
When to call a dealer
- The code returns after you hold OFF for three seconds and press MANUAL. Generac: "If the error code returns, dealer service is required".
- The Mobile Link message says so. Most messages on Generac's list end with "Please contact a dealer."
- An oil level warning (5415–5417) comes back. Generac's message has you remove loads, let the generator cool and check the oil level first, then: "If alarm reappears, please contact a dealer."
Generac's Dealer Locator Tool finds a Generac Independent Authorized Service Dealer (IASD).
